Different Kinds of Online Slots Tournaments

There are two primary slot tournament categories: freeroll slot tournaments and buy-in tournaments. They also range from daily, weekly, and monthly competitions. Some can be joined at any time; some have specific time frames and run for 20 minutes, 10 hours, or even for an entire year. Below, we have listed some of the most common slot tournaments you can find.

Free Online Slot Tournaments

Although free slot tournaments online, also known as social tournaments, are fun to participate in, they offer relatively modest prizes. Slot tournaments free competitions usually only reward players with extra bonuses or free spins instead of actual money. In most cases, 20 free spins no deposit required is the standard.

Like other tournaments, free slot tournaments vary in duration and have similar rules, but the best part is that these competitions come in handy as a fun and risk-free way to play slots for free.

Buy-in Tournaments

Buy-in tournaments are different from slot tournament free competitions because you need to deposit real money in order to participate. But they also give you a chance to win real cash as prizes.

To enter a buy-in tournament, you just have to pay an entry fee that typically ranges between €10-20. Alternatively, you need to make a deposit and play the eligible online slots for your own money. A tournament slot can be organised around just a single slot game, but sometimes you can play several slots to compete. A casino tournament of this format is usually held for a longer period.

Prizes in buy-in slot tournaments vary between casinos, but in general, the larger the entry fee, the larger the prize pool.

One Shot Tournaments

If you participate in a one shot slot tournament, you only have a single chance to achieve a high result or get a high score, as opposed to having numerous attempts or sessions to play. One-shot tournaments are popular due to their instant results. Additionally, everyone gets the same number of spins or the same amount of time to play, ensuring an equal chance of winning.

Survivor Slots Tournaments

There are different types of survivor slot tournaments, but the most common setup involves three rounds, each lasting around 5 minutes. The same rules and gameplay apply throughout, but the competition intensifies with each stage:

• Round 1: All participants compete with each other and those who finish in the top half advance to the next stage.
• Round 2: From here, only the top 10% of players make it to the final round.
• Round 3: The top 1-10 players, depending on the tournament, receive a reward.

These rapid-fire tournaments keep casino players on their toes, which adds more excitement to the gameplay.

VIP Slot Tournaments

VIP slot tournaments are usually reserved for high-roller players. They are generally free to loyal players, and thus, can be considered as ‘free tournament slots win cash’ competitions.

But sometimes high roller tournaments demand a higher stake to play with as prizes are typically much bigger too. If you are looking for a high roller tournament to participate in, take a look at our listing of active casino tournaments above. We have a dedicated page where you can find out how to join a VIP programme.

Daily, Weekly and Monthly Casino Tournaments

There are daily, weekly, and monthly tournaments, each type caters to different playing styles and preferences.

• Daily slot tournaments are great for those looking for a quick challenge and immediate results. A free daily slot tournament typically comes with a smaller prize pool, but you can participate frequently.
• Weekly slot tournaments offer a balance; you can participate in such a tournament every week with the opportunity to win bigger prizes.
• Monthly slot tournaments are perfect for dedicated, patient, and experienced players. Due to the longer duration, monthly tournaments allow for more strategic gameplay.

Where Can I Find Freeroll Slot Tournaments?

Free-to-play slot tournaments usually attract the largest number of players, as you can win prizes without risking any of your own money. However, for this very reason, freerolls are only available at a handful of online casino slot sites that specialise in tournament promotions.

Sometimes, casinos organise free online slots tournaments exclusively for their loyal customers, so it's a good idea to sign up for newsletters and regularly check your favourite casino’s promotions page. Some new online casinos also run freeroll slot tournaments to attract new players looking for a no-risk way to get started.

The Best Online Casinos Hosting Online Slot Tournaments

Why Do Casinos Host Slot Tournaments?

The cost for a casino to host a slot tournament is low. They already have slot machines available and the entry fee pays for the prizes, plus only a few staff members are needed to manage the competition. In return, they receive potentially thousands of new visitors through their doors.

Casinos know players will likely spend money after the tournament finishes. Whether they choose to play more slot machines or check out other casino games, it’s a win-win for any online casino site.

Slots Tournaments Rules

There are as many different rules as there are casinos. This is precisely why it’s important to read the terms and conditions before you participate. However, most slot tournaments have some rules in common, including:

1. Game selection – Usually, only a select few slots can be played during a slot tournament, even if it’s a free slot tournament.
2. Time limits – Every tournament lasts a certain amount of time, and once the time is up, the tournament is over, and the winner is determined.
3. Prizes – Unless otherwise stated, tournament prizes usually come with wagering requirements you’ll have to fulfil before withdrawing your winnings. No deposit freeroll slot tournaments typically have higher wagering requirements than buy-in tournaments.
4. Score – As a general rule, the player who achieves the highest score, wins the competition.
5. Bet size – Every tournament has a minimum bet amount per spin. Hence, spins played below the minimum bet size won't count towards your score.

How to Win a Slot Tournament? Best Casino Tournament Strategies

Even if you are familiar with casino games, playing in tournaments is significantly different from regular gameplay. Here are our five top tips to help you maximise your experience in slot casino tournaments and increase your chances of winning:

• First, consider the nature of the tournament and the size of your bankroll. If you only play casino games occasionally or with a tiny budget, your chances of winning diminish.
• Find out what prizes you can win from the tournament. If the prize money is real money, you can withdraw it straight away. However, if you participate in a slots tournament free competition, the prize money still needs to be wagered, and you must continue playing games even after winning the tournament, unfortunately.
• Check the eligible games. Slot tournaments are usually limited to one or several specific slot games from the same provider.
• Find out how long the free slot tournament has been running and when it will end. However, don't just consider the duration; take into account the nature of the tournament as well. If the contest has been ongoing for months and the prize is awarded to the player with the highest cumulative winnings, then your chances of winning are likely slim if you only participate on the last day.
• Compare the eligible games’ RTPs. You should always choose to play the games with the highest payout percentage. Depending on the tournament type, it makes sense to also consider the volatility of the game to maximise your chances of winning.
